The Elephant Island: Ko Chang

During the weekend, when I was living in Pattaya, I decided to go further south and to discover my first island in Thailand.

I went to Koh Chang, who was supposed to be a short drive (around 5 or 6 hours), but I learned that in Thailand, don’t trust the time they announced (you never know what can happen on the road ). So on Friday, it took me 9 hours to get there (with the minibus and the ferry!!!), and I discover that the road there is up and down, it is just so crazy to drive there (was grateful that I didn’t plan on renting a motorbike, some cars had troubles getting up the hills!!!!)

Koh Chang is the elephant island (and which I find very sad, you can find many places to see them, but they are only in use for tourists and in cages, which is awful and not respectful about these fantastic animals!!!! There is only one place on the island where you can help these animals by volunteering). The island itself is impressive, beautiful and with jungle everywhere (but on the west coast, many hotels are built, so the landscape is not so attractive…) So I enjoy the ocean and swimming in blue water, which was very relaxing!!

I went on Saturday on a little snorkeling tour on one of the many islands that were in front of Lonely beach (Koh Man Nuak).  Lonely Beach is one of the places on the island that has still her charm, with a lot of bungalow by the beach and is the place to be if you want to party, especially on a full moon night!! I loved the snorkeling, and I had the impression that I was in an aquarium (so what’s the point of visiting one when you can directly go into it?).

You can, in the morning, woke up early and saw the sunrise (or the sunset if it’s better for you). On the beaches, it’s the perfect place to do some meditation and to jump after in the water.

A lovely weekend, but if you want to go there, go further in the south of the island. You will feel more about the atmosphere of this island!!!!!
