The Blue Ridge Parkway

Where is the Blue Ridge Parkway?

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a ribbon of road that weaves through the region’s vibrant living traditions. From Cherokee life and agricultural history to Southern Appalachian crafts and music, the Parkway’s 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina offer many ways to explore rich traditions.

What can you see on this road?

Spanning the southern and central Appalachians, the Blue Ridge Parkway offers an exceptional glimpse of the regional flora and fauna. It is world-renowned for its biodiversity.

The Parkway covers a wide range of habitats along the Appalachian Mountains, and some of these habitats are exceptionally rare. Visitors encounter unsurpassed diversity of climate, vegetation, wildlife, and geological features.

An app to know your way:

As a scenic byway that sometimes traverses deep into the mountainous forests of Virginia and North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway as a journey is unique. GPS isn’t reliable on the Parkway, though the experience of stunning views is.

They have a Blue Ridge Pkwy Travel Planner mobile app that works even without a cell signal. No connectivity is no problem. You’ll find helpful information on natural resources and culture, Favorites you can save and customize, and maps and services arranged by region and community. An invaluable tool for your trip, the Blue Ridge Pkwy Travel Planner app is a free download.

What is my thought about this road?

Even if we took a little portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway to go to Nashville, it is a scenic road with a fantastic view of the mountains. We stopped in a farm who was renovated; it was fascinating to see how the rangers are managing that. I loved the work with the woods!!!!! We couldn’t do the entire road because it is way too long, around 420 miles. On this road, you can see many falls, some railroads (it was incredible to see that inside the forest!!!!).
