Plaisance National Park

One weekend, we were supposed to visit Montebello Manoir Historic Site, but it was closed as we had a storm this past week.
So, we went to discover Plaisance National Park.

Where is it located?

Here is the adress of the Visitor Center, so you can put it into your GPS:
1001 Chemin de la Grande Presqu’Ile, Plaisance, QC

About the Park:

Plaisance National Park is a SEPAQ park and the only one in Outaouais. You will have to pay the entrance fee: of $8.05 or if you have your annual pass (it is $72.62), you will not have to stop to pay for it.

It features rich biodiversity with over 250 species of birds, many amphibians, and turtles! Experience nature in the heart of the park’s wetlands and splendid forests.

The name Plaisance evokes the pleasantness of a landscape broken by bays, ponds, and marshes. In spring, Plaisance performs with thousands of Canada Geese. Come summer; it’s a paradise for ducks, herons, ospreys, and dozens of other species. The Ottawa River’s soft breeze makes the tall grasses bend and toss in a wave-like roll across the Petite Presqu’île, not far from the campground.

What did we see?

We went for a walk, but we didn’t do as much as we wanted to because this day was especially hot and humid.

The Zizanie-des-Marais trail is the absolute top must-see of parc national de Plaisance. One kilometer pathway – including over 400 meters of a floating path – takes you to the heart of our marshes teeming with life! You will undoubtedly spot beaver or muskrat dens along the way, if not a great blue heron or red-winged blackbird! The flowering aquatic plants found here in the summer are also a gorgeous spectacle not to be missed.

And we passed through le Marais aux Rubaniers. This trail offers you a complete change of scene as it winds its way to the heart of a lush forest. The trail also features over 500 meters of a raised walkway on stilts. Located in a park section that floods every spring and usually is inaccessible, this raised walkway allows you to visit the splendid Rubaniers marsh.

They have so much more to explore, but next time, we are planning to bring our bikes directly, so it will be more easy to explore more.
