When we moved to Vancouver Island, I was so excited that we have a Provincial Park near us, especially with mountains. So, of course, almost a few days after we arrived, we headed there, and I was not disappointed!
Where is Strathcona Provincial Park?
It is on Vancouver Island, and it is almost in the middle and very accessible from Courtenay/ Comox and Campbell River, but you have many entry points!!
How to get to Paradis Meadow Trail?
From Comox, Courtenay, and Campbell River, take the Inland Highway and follow Mount Washington. Don’t go up to the village; you will have to make a turn left to join this gigantic parking at Strathcona Provincial Park entrance. Be aware that sometimes you will need some winter tires or chains depending on the weather! By the way, the view to get there when it’s a sunny day is awesome. You can see the sea and the mountains at the same time!
Our first time here:
The first time we did a portion of this trail was on our way back from Helen MacKenzie Lake (and we did try to go further, but the weather was not with us, and the trail to go further was really slippery!). So on our way back to the Parking, we did go through the Paradise Meadows Trail. Meadow Trail is at the entrance of the Forbidden Plateau. This loop is really an easy one, but the landscapes are beautiful. You can see many lakes, the vegetation during the Fall is very colorful, and you can get a chance to get some birds on your hands (it is more helpful if you have something to eat, but be aware that they are protected, so human food is not appropriated!)
From Fall season to Winter:
We just went there yesterday, and the snow has come! Mount Washington got a little snow a few days ago, and it was just magical to see the difference. Of course, we did love it! The landscapes did change so much! And it is always a great opportunity to take some photography there and take them to the next level!
I was already ready to move there, and I think I am even more! I have to make that happen, but life can sometimes show you what you need!!!
Enjoy this place as much as I did if you are on Vancouver Island!
