Hidden Falls in Sombrio Beach

Before leaving Sooke, I wanted to find the Hidden Falls on Sombrio Beach in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park. I did read a lot about it, and especially how to find it. I had even printed it out. But of course, it didn’t go as planned as the access to Sombrio Beach was closed for the long weekend (Victoria weekend) to avoid any crowds, parties.

Where is Hidden Falls located?

Hidden Falls is located in Sombrio Beach in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park.
You can put your GPS if you need to, but follow the signs to Sombrio Beach and park down if you are in the area. Then from there, you will have to follow a path to Sombrio Beach. (we had to walk down and then come up…it was pretty up the challenge!!!)
Once you reached the bottom of this path, you have to go on the left to East Sombrio. You will very soon come directly to the beach (many people were camping this weekend, it was kind of crazy!).

More details about how to get there:

Once you are on the beach, you have to walk about half a mile to find the spot.
Just follow the beach and walk on the rocks (be careful, it can be very slippery). You have to pass the big rocks (it’s easier to get there when the tide is low, or you will have to climb a little bit, or just put your feet directly in the water, it’s up to you!)

Just after the rock, you will see on your left a sea cave, so you have to continue a little bit after that.

You will then see on the left some toilets, and it’s a few meters after that (around 50 meters), just after there is a sign with some information, but if you get there, it means you did get too far.

So, from now on, you have to find a stream river coming down and then once you have passed the river, there is a little path you have to follow.
Follow this path until the very end; even if there is no path, this is where the magic happened.
You have to walk in the water to get there (I was wearing sandals and trust me, the water was so cold!), but the trip is worth it.
You will enter this cave where the Falls come down, take as much as photos as you want (and you will get wet at the same time, which was great!).

Take your time, enjoy this place. We were so lucky as this weekend was crowded, but nobody was in the Hidden Falls.

Why should you go there?

You should go for the adventurous part, as we didn’t know how exactly to find it and to take time to enjoy the surroundings and the beauty around us.

I hope you will like this place as much as I did.
