Elk Falls Suspension Bridge

This was one of the first places we discovered once we arrived on Vancouver Island, and it is very close to your home!

Where is Elk Falls Provincial Park located?

The Quinsam campground at Elk Falls Provincial Park is located 3 km north of Campbell River on central Vancouver Island on Hwy 28 toward the town of Gold River. The Elk Falls day-use areas are located 3 km west of the campground off Hwy 28. This is how you can get through the trail to the Falls. Just park your car, and you are set to go for a little walk to the Suspension Bridge.

What can you see there?
  • The Elk Falls suspension bridge and viewpoint areas: a short, 800-meter hike on easy trails allows access to the suspension bridge and north and south viewing areas. Some stairs are required to access the suspension bridge and south viewpoint. The view is really nice, try to take a picture without someone on the bridge (you will be a memorable photo!)
  • Old-growth loop trails: Many of the park’s iconic old-growth forest areas (Western red cedar, Douglas fir) are located above Elk Falls. These forest areas were spared from early logging and the 1938 Sayward Fire. It is awe-inspiring to see the trees, and it was the image I got from BC, and here we are!
  • Riverside trail: this trail meanders along the very dynamic upper Campbell River, above Elk Falls. There are riverside hazards and slippery areas throughout this area of the park, so be cautious! But the views are amazing and listening to the sound of the water is so peaceful!

If you are located near Campbell River, it is a must-do, but be aware, you will find many people around the Suspension bridge and especially in the summer!
