Discover Rouyn Noranda in a few hours

Today, we started our trip to BC. If I think about it and about what happened in the world right now. It is still unbelievable, and I feel so grateful to have the chance to do it and having someone with me who follows me wherever I got a job is just speechless!
Today was the beginning of our trip, and we made it in a little more than 6 hours as we stopped a little bit for lunch near a river or a lake (I have no idea). The water was so clear, and it’s always nice to jump inside!!
We always wanted to visit Rouyn Noranda, as it is the town in the north of Quebec province! It is in the region of Abitibi Témiscamingue. So I probably imagined that it was quaint and cute.
The town itself is the town of copper, so they are some factories, but we quickly understood that even if they are here, they are not welcome. A few slogans were written with words like contaminated…I didn’t do any research as we are just passing by. So if you want to learn more about it, feel free to do it!
But, when you stopped in Rouyn Noranda, you can expect to have some snow (as it is north), and we did find some snow. It was right outside the Arena (so technically it doesn’t count, but it was funny to see it as it was like 90 degrees outside!)
You can walk into the main Street, Principal Street and Gambler Street and even nobody was outside, the streets were cute! You can find some restaurants and some shops (to be honest, most of them were closed).
You can enjoy the two lakes which are in the city: Lake Osisko. You can get a bike for free, and you can ride around the lake (they have a $20 deposit) and Pelletier Lake. You can generally enjoy the beach, but probably because of the COVID, it was closed.
Make a stop at the Dumulon general store. It is the oldest store in Rouyn Noranda. Jos Dumulon and his family built it in 1924.
Walk to the Russian orthodox church St Georges who was built in 1955 and finished in 1957. This church was built because the Russian communities wanted to have a priest, and it is Feodor Ustustschenkow who got the job and who created the orthodox churches in Kirkland Lake and Val d’Or.
If you want to enjoy a nice picnic, go to Botanic Park A Fleur d’eau. The place is filled with so many flowers, but the colors are beautiful.
I can’t wait to tell you about my next adventure!!!
