Canyon View Trail

As it is the Christmas Holidays, it is always nice to discover some new trails around Campbell River (and yes, I’m not every day in the mountains even if I wish, but one day very soon!). I heard about this trail from a few colleagues from my school, so I decided to try.

Where is Canyon View Trail?

To go there, you will have a few options:

-You have to follow Elk Falls Provincial Park, and you can park near the river (a lot of cars are parking there )
-You can park near the bridge near Gold River Hwy and Logging Road (the famous bridge where you can see bears eating salmons!) or even go to the other side, a few cars can park there and you will have to follow the directions Canyon View Trail.
-You can choose to park on John Hard Rd. This is where the Generating Station is but be aware that they close the place at 5 PM. You will have to follow the signs of Canyon View Trail. We decided to go to the left (the river was in front of us).

How long is the trail?

It took approximately 1hour and a half (I’m really exaggerating as I was taking pictures, looking at the dead salmon who were eaten by bears, and looking at the trees’ amazing colors!)
The trail is less than 6 km, but you will see that you can add a little bit of walking (and it’s not so long!)
At the beginning of the trail, as we went through the Generating Station and their platform with some totems and some explanations about the Generating Station, you will have a few steps. But even if you are not a super sportive type, you can definitely do it!

Why do I recommend this trail?

This trail is really not far from Campbell River, but I have to warn you that many people are walking there. We were lucky as today the weather was not great, so we didn’t see so many people (but it was actually one of the trails here we saw this many people…). Can you tell that we like to be alone on our trails?
Enjoy the trail and take time to go to Elk Falls Suspension Bridge.
